Day 6 - Worship

Analysa Fullam

When you say yes to Jesus and learn more and more about who He is, your thoughts will start to change. Maybe not immediately, but over time, you’ll notice that God comes to your mind a lot more often than He did before you said yes, which is a good thing! Believe it or not, this is a sign of a life filled with worship toward God. So often, we like to put worship in this nice little box that means “music played during church”, but like Pastor Analysa says worship is about honoring Jesus. We can honor Jesus with music, with our time, with our thoughts, with our words, with our actions… and He receives all of those as worship!

So WHO are you worshipping? Everybody is worshipping something or someone. This can be a celebrity, a personal relationship in your life, a book, a TV show… whatever you think about when you first wake up or the last thought before you go to bed will often give you an indicator of what you’re worshipping. Once we say yes to Jesus, He has to be the center focus of our worship.

WHY? Earlier in the week, we’ve discussed the sacrifice that Jesus paid and the salvation that we have received. We worship because He is worthy of our worship; He has delivered us from sin, and He empowers us to live for Him while we’re on this earth. He deserves our worship. God is great, He’s our might defender, He is our help in present trouble, He is our comforter, and the list goes on and on… The longer you walk with the Lord, the more reasons you’ll find to praise Him. Worship is the only thing we can give God that He did not first give us.

HOW do we worship? Worship comes from the heart. The first way we learn to worship as Christians is through song and dance in our worship services. We sing about what God has done, and we thank Him for what He’s going to do. We dance to praise God for who He is and to remind our souls that He’s in control. From there, we can implement a heart of worship into anything that we do. God is with us all the time, and we can worship Him at any time. Worship can be singing a song by yourself in your car, having a kind conversation with someone, giving tithes and offerings, donating to the less fortunate, having integrity in every job you do, and anything else you do as long as you are intentional about honoring God through it.

TRY THIS: Today, take 10 minutes and worship God through song or however else you feel you should. Be deliberate in honoring God, thanking Him for what He’s done in your life, and praising Him for who He is. You can follow the link below to our ASCEND Spotify playlist put together by our worship team. You'll find all their favorite worship songs, go check it out.

PRAY THIS: God, help me to stay focused on you. I honor you and worship you and you alone. Show me anything that I have put above you, help me to keep you number one in my life. Thank you for being patient with me and loving me even when I fail. Amen.
