Emotions & Feelings

What’s the difference between your emotions and your feelings?

Emotions are in the moment; they're an instant, natural reaction to a situation. Feelings are how you interpret, process, and understand your emotions; they happen after the moment, and you hold on to them and carry them with you.

Emotions & feelings are not sin. God created them. They can however lie beneath the surface and control your actions & reactions.

“Your emotions don’t reveal the quality of your life, they reveal the quality of your thinking.”

Your emotions and feelings are a thermometer not a thermostat. A thermometer tells you the temperature in the room. They bring awareness to you, but they shouldn’t control the situation. A thermostat sets the temperature in the room.

God's Word is the thermostat.

So how do we process feelings and emotions so they don’t control us?

VIBE WITH THE WORD, NOT THE WORLD

- If you allow your heart and emotions to lead you, it’s dangerous.

- Your heart isn’t a compass, it’s a killer.

- Feelings will always leave you empty and wanting more. Feelings do not fill.

FIX YOUR FOCUS

- You can learn to process things where your thoughts will start to dictate your feelings.

- You have to learn to PROCESS when the world is trying to POUNCE.

- Vague prayers get vague answers.

- When you're feeling Fear… Phil 4:6-7

- When you're feeling Anger... Ephesians 4:26

- When you're feeling Sadness, grief, depression... James 1:2

- Process by stepping into His presence and pursuing Him.

Jesus’ most hell-defying moment in all of history was when He hung on the cross. It was also the moment that He no longer FELT God, His Father. “Father, Father, Why have you forsaken me?!” How many resurrection moments have we give up on because we attempt to EXCHANGE true FAITH for shallow FEELING?

How do you give God your emotions and feelings? It's a FAITH thing, not a FEELING thing.
