Becoming More Like Christ
I love it when I get the question, "How do I give my all to Jesus?" This question usually arises when someone has had a true encounter with Jesus, and something has changed within them. My answer is almost always the same: your old life must come to an end, and a new one must begin. I know that might sound crazy at first—I thought so too—but here's what I mean: you need to let go of your old life and start anew in Christ.
In Galatians, it talks about being “crucified with Christ.” This refers not to a physical death but to a spiritual transformation! Because of Jesus’s love for us and what He accomplished on the cross, we have the opportunity for eternal life. However, if that’s the only reason you want to be saved, you’re missing out on the much more that Jesus wants to offer you. You've experienced Jesus in a whole new way at City Week and truly felt His presence. To continue walking with God, you must become more like His Son.
Galatians 2:20 states, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” There is true LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, and SELF-CONTROL when you give your life to Christ! You begin to transform into a different person, acquiring the qualities that Jesus embodies; this is why we are called to become more like Jesus and less like ourselves. I’m not saying you can’t have your own personality traits or that you have to stop doing things you enjoy. Jesus gave you your sense of humor, so use it! However, when you truly encounter Jesus, the sin you once indulged in starts to leave you feeling even more empty. Jesus is the answer to everything you’re trying to fix on your own, so give it to Him!
If your desire is to continue to carry that sound of His love, you need to start living a life that reflects Jesus! Don’t look like everyone else in this world—look like Christ!
QUESTION FOR TODAY: What is one thing that you’re willing to give up to more like Jesus?
PRAY THIS:
Jesus, I thank You for what You did on the cross – for giving Your life for me and taking the punishment that was meant for me. Lord, I ask that You would make me more like You, that You would help me to die to my flesh and live completely in You. God, make me holy like Your son, cleanse me of any thing that might be keeping me from truly walking a life worthy of Your calling. I love You, Jesus – in Your name I pray, amen!
TRY THIS:
Read your Bible for 10 minutes. If you want to become more like Him, you must know who He is! Start in the gospel of John. Spend 10 minutes in prayer just talking to God about your day or what you’re going through.
