Jesus the Healer
If you're into sports, you probably know what it means when someone is “clutch”—like Steph Curry, showing up in the most important, pressure-filled moments. That’s exactly the image we’re leaning into: Jesus shows up clutch — right when we need Him most.
In Mark 5, there are two powerful, back-to-back stories of healing: Jairus’ daughter, who was at the point of death, & the woman with the issue of blood, who had suffered for 12 years.
These stories remind us that Jesus doesn’t ignore our pain—He enters it. He’s present in our desperation, and His timing is never off.
1. There Are No Coincidences
- Jesus is intentional—not random. Everything happens for a reason.
- “Coincidence is the thief that tries to steal glory from our God.” – Phillip A. Mitchell
2. Being in the presence of Jesus isn’t the same as being present with Jesus.
- Sometimes we show up to church or youth group but stay disengaged. Jesus invites us to lean in with faith, not just attendance.
- It’s not about doing more—it’s about being with Him more.
- The entire crowd "touched" Jesus, but the woman was intentional and desperate.
- Being present with Jesus looks different for every person, because different people have different relationships and communication styles.
- It's not about the length of time you spend with Jesus - it's about the amount you receive from Him.
- Trusting that Jesus can change everything shifts how we show up.
3. Jesus often heals through people.
- The Holy Spirit allows us to walk in the power, compassion, self control, healing, and miracles that Jesus had.
- Are you listening, and are you available?
- He heals because He cares, and it’s already paid for.
- He uses our faith, our presence, and our voice to be part of someone else’s miracle. That’s why how you show up matters.
The woman with the issue of blood reached for Jesus in faith. Jairus begged Jesus to come, trusting in His authority.
Both had different stories, but shared one thing: desperate faith.
Jesus met both with compassion and power.
Whether you're broken or healed, desperate or just present—Jesus sees you.
He’s not asking for perfection - He’s asking for presence.
He’s not just a distant God - He’s the God who shows up clutch. Every time.
