Keep The Fire Burning

Ireland Freed

City Week can feel like a mountaintop moment your heart is on fire, your faith is alive, and God feels realer than ever. But what happens when you come home? The music fades. The crowd is gone. Life gets loud again, and slowly, that flame starts to flicker.

But here’s the truth: God never meant for your fire to be temporary. He wants it to last.

We need to remember that fire doesn’t just stay contained when it grows it spreads. The bigger the flame, the more it sets everything around it ablaze. So if your heart is burning passionately for God, it won’t just affect you. It'll start to ignite the people around you too – your fire can light other fires. Imagine what could happen in your school, your family, your friend group if you let that fire keep growing and overflowing.

But even the strongest fire will go out if it’s not cared for.

Think about a campfire: if you stop adding wood, if you let the wind blow it out, or if you ignore it, it doesn’t matter how bright it once burned. Eventually, it turns to ash. The same is true for our passion for God. Just like a real fire, your passion for God needs fuel, and it doesn’t come from hype – it comes from habit.

Feed your fire with the Word. Let Scripture shape your mind and stir your heart.

Protect your fire with community. You weren’t meant to burn alone – stay close to others who are chasing Jesus too.

Fan your fire through prayer and worship. Ask the Holy Spirit to keep you sensitive and surrendered.

Spread your fire through service. Fire grows when it’s shared. Let your life reflect Jesus to others.

You don’t have to live from one spiritual high to the next. You can live ablaze, every day.

QUESTION FOR TODAY: What helped your faith grow stronger during City Week? What small habit can you start today to keep your fire burning? Who can you invite into your walk with Jesus to help you stay accountable?

PRAY THIS:

Lord, I don’t want my passion for You to fade after City Week. Help me build a life that keeps the fire burning – through Your Word, through prayer, through community, and through living for others. Keep my heart tender and bold. Set me on fire for You - a fire so big that it spreads. Amen.
