Gentle Whisper

Bella Francoeur

After all the fun and craziness of City Week, it is hard to figure out where to go from there. You ask yourself, “How do I carry this sound outside of City Week?” In my own personal walk, I have found that during City Week, there are all of these amazing encounters with God. Signs, visions, and words from Him are loud and clear in those moments. However, about a week after, once I'm home and settled back into my routine of going to work or going out with friends and family, I feel like I start to hear nothing at all.

As I was spending time in the Word, I came across a story that helped me through this in 1 Kings 19. It talks about when the Lord spoke to Elijah on Mount Sinai. It says that he went to the top of the mountain, and then a mighty windstorm hit the mountain, so powerful that the rocks were destroyed. However, it says that the Lord was not in the wind. Then there was a blazing fire, but the Lord wasn’t in that either. Then, after all of that, came the sound of a gentle whisper. In that moment, the voice of God was not loud or thunderous, but Elijah heard it in the stillness of a gentle whisper.

So, how do you carry the sound outside of City Week? Find time to hear the gentle whisper of the Lord. Be intentional about spending time in your secret place with God. In Matthew 6:6 AMP, it says, “But when you pray, go into your most private room, close the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees [what is done] in secret will reward you.” Make a habit of spending time alone just reading your Word and spending time with God. As I built this habit, it made me realize that He wasn't being silent; I just wasn't listening closely enough.

QUESTION FOR TODAY: Am I taking the time to actually sit down and listen for the Lord's voice?

PRAY THIS:

Dear Lord, thank You for Your presence. I pray that as I spend this time with You that You open my ears to hear Your voice. Speak to me God, show me what You have planned for me next and lead and direct each step that I take. I pray that anything that the enemy may send my way to distract me from this moment will be gone in Your name. Amen!

TRY THIS:

Spend 5 - 10 minutes in silence (no people, no phone, no music) reading your word and praying. Ask God to speak to you.
